Meet the Owner!
Hello and welcome! My name is Susan, and The Nest Egg is the beautiful answer to a prayer that was planted in my heart more than 20 years ago. As I was finishing my degree in Early Childhood Education at ECU, the Lord began laying this dream before me—a place created with intention, love, and faith, where children could explore and imagine without any boundaries to their learning.
My love for children and teaching began long before that. At just 13 years old, I started teaching Sunday School at my church, and from that moment on, I knew teaching would always be part of my calling. Over the years, the Lord has allowed me to serve children and families in many ways—as a childcare center director, a home childcare provider, and for the past 12 years, as a homeschooling mama.
I have been married to my wonderful husband for 19 years, and together we are raising two amazing boys, Banks (12) and Ty (17). Being their mother has been one of my greatest joys and has only deepened my passion for early childhood and education.
In April of 2025, I felt a gentle but unmistakable nudge from the Lord—it was time to pursue the dream He placed on my heart so long ago. That calling became The Nest Egg, a children’s playroom built on faith, purpose, and love. I am beyond excited to bring this dream to Pitt County.
This journey has been anything but solitary. My dad has poured his heart and soul into helping bring this vision to life, and my husband, my children, family and friends have worked tirelessly alongside me—painting, building furniture, and supporting me every step of the way. While this dream was given to me, it has been prayed over, thoughtfully built, and lovingly shaped by so many hands and hearts.
The Nest Egg is more than a business—it is a calling. My prayer is that every child who walks through our doors feels safe, cherished, and free to grow, play, and thrive, all within a space created to honor the Lord and celebrate the beauty of childhood.
Come visit us! We can’t wait to meet you!
Meet my Dad!
The Nest Egg Children’s Playroom would not exist without my dad. This is Tim. Every wall, every detail, every carefully built space was helped to be shaped by his hands and his heart. While he spent 40 years serving his community as a paramedic, he has been a builder since he was old enough to hold a hammer. Truly, if there is something he can’t build, I haven’t found it yet.
When I shared my dream for The Nest Egg, my dad didn’t hesitate. He poured himself into bringing my vision to life, working tirelessly for months, often without rest, simply because he believed in me and in this dream. This playroom is filled not just with craftsmanship, but with love, sacrifice, and countless quiet moments where he chose to give his very best.
Standing right beside him, though often behind the scenes, is my mom. While she hasn’t been needed in the playroom itself very much, she has been the steady heartbeat of this journey—making sure we were fed, cared for, encouraged, and supported every step of the way. Her role may not be visible on the walls, but it is deeply woven into the foundation of this place.
My parents have been married for nearly 50 years and have been a wonderful example to me and my siblings of what a Godly marriage, selfless love, and unwavering commitment truly look like. The Nest Egg is a reflection of their example, their faith, and their love.
This dream would never have been possible without my parents, and I am endlessly grateful and deeply blessed to have them as part of my life and this story.
